I wanted to make a post in-case it can be of some use. PLEASE feel free to correct anything I may be wrong about.
I have been struggling with managing the photos in my site, about a 100, and plan on adding monthly as projects get completed, So this is my solution.
First if you don't have Faststone Photo Resizer get it. Its truly amazing at batch: resizing, renaming, adding a border, and adding copy right and water marks. Once you set up the options its just one click and a whole folder is done. It will take a little time to learn, make sure you download the manual when you get the software. And its free!
To start make a pic folder in windows for each page you are going to have photos on, also add a folder ie: webready_xyz. Place the corresponding photos in their folders. This will let Faststone grab them and you already have the output folder.
I rename my files for my seo needs to match. ie apple_pie_filling_for_backing_(original file name here). I use the original file name at the end of the rename so I can have a reference to my originals.
So InWP7:
I have found building a site with no photos until I am almost done is a must. Use Img place holders if you want, or just leave the area empty.
It is very important to not let images and text overlap. I have had file corruption occur that will crash WP for some reason. It may mess with the html also, so a post on the interwebs said?
I also save a new version of my WP file after each major page is completed or a large amount of changes have been made.
In site properties/images:
Check Use Original Name
un-check Combine Overlapping Images (dont want to lose your naming for the seo)
Once you are done with adding the photos on a page, go to the Tools/image export manager.
Select Images on current page, click save to my chosen path and name, a new window will open, go to the folder tree and highlight wpimages folder, click on new folder, create a new folder for the page you are working on, name it relevant to the page name/seo, click ok.
Then click on alt/title and add them. Click on Continue and it will go to the next image, you won’t have to recreate the file folder since it is already there. When you’re done click on close.
So now your images are organized nicely in the wpimages folder when you’re upload, and your photo seo is done.
Finally before you publish go to sitemanager/resources/ select all your image files and on the bottom of the page select “linked”. Now all your photos are linked and Wp will export them un touched, and save some file memory size for when WP is working.
Hope this helps
